Job Description:
Arbitron Inc. is a media and marketing research firm serving radio broadcasters, cable companies, advertisers, advertising agencies and outdoor advertising companies. Arbitron’s core businesses are measuring network and local market radio audiences across the United States; surveying the retail, media and product patterns of local market consumers; and providing application software used for analyzing media audience and marketing information data. The Company has developed the Portable People Meter, a new technology for media and marketing research.


Through its Scarborough Research joint venture with The Nielsen Company, Arbitron also provides media and marketing research services to the broadcast television, newspaper and online industries.


We are looking for three Black Belts to join our Operations and Customer Services team in Columbia, MD.


The Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB) serves in a key strategic operating role for the organization. Providing hands-on expertise to solve problems and plan projects, the SSBB works with both leadership and cross-functional teams to develop, execute and complete process improvements and re-engineering efforts. These individuals will lead, mentor and coach Six Sigma Green Belts and provide oversight on Operations and Customer Services initiatives.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Lead Arbitron Black Belt efforts with limited levels of direction and support by leading teams in the application of Lean and Six Sigma tools to solve business problems and develop increased competency using the Black Belt toolkit and methodology. Focusing on process improvements and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on process improvement and re-engineering initiatives utilizing the Six Sigma methodology. Initially there will be a heavy concentration on DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control with specific projects which will require extensive knowledge of DMADV (define, measure, analyze, design, verify).
  • Ability to handle risk and uncertainty and adapts easily and quickly to changing environment without losing effectiveness.
  • Provide project, methodology, and tool support to a full complement of Green Belts and Lean Practitioners for implementation of projects in a core functional area.
  • Develop a network of project teams across Operations and Customer Services. Drive change and process improvement projects and programs in various segments of the business.
  • Facilitate meetings and events to review and examine project completion, obstacles, problem resolution, timelines, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Effectively manage resources (people, time, costs etc). Accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks.
  • Utilize statistical software tools (i.e. Minitab, SigmaXL, etc.) to effectively analyze data.
  • Train and coach Arbitron teams with new lean strategies and tools.
  • Drive Lean principles with energy and passion into the organization.
  • Lead improvement teams in creating value stream maps and future state implementation plans.
  • Create, use and educate the organization on the use of key metrics and scorecards to help manage effective processes, and monitor ongoing performance.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification required.
  • QS Certification is strongly desired.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience with process improvement and re-engineering efforts. Proven track record of successful hands-on Project Management in various areas of the business, particularly in Operations, Quality, Logistics, Business Continuity, Processing & Fulfillment and/or Call Center Operations.
  • Prior experience implementing and managing ISO 9000 and ISO 2000 environments and the understanding of Quality Control as an important part of business operations is required.
  • Prior experience developing strong working relationships with management at all levels.
  • Strong business acumen through demonstrated knowledge and ability to display the linkage between projects and desired business results. Proven track record of creating and utilizing metrics and scorecards to drive results.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated proficiency utilizing statistical software tools (i.e. Minitab, SigmaXL, etc.) is required.
  • Strong technical aptitude using Business Intelligence (BI) Tools and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) to collect and analyze data for determining an improvement strategy.
  • Malcolm Baldrige auditing experience a plus.
  • Effective communicator, able to speak to all audiences throughout the organization, understanding the various needs of audience members and tailoring the message to address their concerns. Strong written communication skills.
  • Understanding that both internal and external customers are the recipients of processes and the final judges of product or service quality.
  • Ability to take projects from scope, requirements, resources, timeline, and variance perspectives. Knowledge of project management fundamentals and experience managing projects are essential.
  • Results oriented with demonstrated performance in keeping and delivering commitments.
  • Effectively lead and coach teams in order to influence skills and motivate others through brainstorming techniques and lean applications.
