PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE The CI Engineer is a leader of process improvements by leading and supporting projects and engaging the organization to adopt Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and techniques for achieving operational effectiveness. He/She will be providing technical support to the overall deployment of CI initiatives via the CI Plan with specific support of Lean, Yellow Belt and Green Belt projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS ·Lead and support projects to deliver significant operational performance improvements and process control. ·Collaborate and motivate leaders to establish a sense of urgency for engraining continuous improvement principles to drive results. ·Assist the organization to identify cost critical processes, determine customer requirements, measure and assess their performance, and enable them to be improved via CI tools. ·Work with leadership to prioritize, resource, and manage opportunities for improvements. ·Perform multiple execution activities to accomplish the project objectives while balancing the projects with competing demands, scope, time and cost. ·Build/update communication plans that build understanding and buy-in for the case for action to integrate CI. ·Supplement process improvements with Lean tools where appropriate. ·Lead and Support process validation activities as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES ·Applied knowledge of statistical analysis including histogram, Pareto, correlation, hypothesis tests, SPC and Capability analysis. ·Applied knowledge in Lean concepts such as value chain, flow, pull and tools commonly used to eliminate waste, including kaizen, 5S, error-proofing, value-stream mapping, etc. ·Applied knowledge of quality engineering principles such as VOC,VOP, risk analysis, control plans, sampling plans and good documentation practices. ·Good technical writing skills ·Strong Statistical analysis skills such as control charts, capability analysis, Hypothesis T and F test analysis preferred. ·Black Belt skill set preferred ·Strong interpersonal skills including communications, facilitation, consulting, coaching and influencing. ·Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. ·Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor and coach Yellow Belts. ·Demonstrated project management excellence. Strong track record of results. ·Excellent team facilitation/leadership skills and teamwork/collaborative style. ·Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation skills. ·Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple/detail-oriented tasks. ·Proficiency with key PC software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Minitab, Visio).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ·Bachelors Degree in an Engineering field required ·3-5 years experience required in areas of Six Sigma, Lean or other Problem Solving methodologies such as 8D, Triz or Kepner Tregoe. ·Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience required. 3-5 years in injection molding or extrusion process preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS ·Job duties are split between an office environment and performing duties on the manufacturing floor. Adheres to plant safety requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable. ·Must be willing to flex schedule on occasion to facilitate learning and development on the off shifts. ·Must have the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively, 65 pounds non-repetitively. ·Exposed to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas. ·Safety glasses, ear plugs, hair nets, lab-coats and snuffers are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas.

The Treyburn facility manufactures Disposable Labware products used in advanced life science research, drug discovery, and cell biology applications. Located in Treyburn Corporation Park in Durham North Carolina, the 236,000 sq ft facility is situated on 120 acres. The site employs approximately 380 associates, divided between Tubes, Tissue Culture, and Pipet manufacturing, operation support. and plant administration. The facility produces BD Falcon™ brand pipets, tissue culture plates, cell inserts, dishes, roller bottles and tubes.
