Job Description: The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt establishes, coordinates and provides leadership for Lean Six Sigma projects within a Region or Corporate Function. These projects should be integrated with the business or department strategy and meet the guidelines, criteria and metrics established jointly by the business leader and Deployment Champion. Works with the business leader(s), Deployment Champion, and sponsor to charter, scope, and define key performance metrics for the assigned projects as well as prioritize projects and manage the project queue. The Black Belt (BB) is responsible for delivering business value through effectively driving projects to completion.
The Black Belt is an agent of change for the organization as well as for individual processes within the business/functional area. This role calls for the use of rigorous logic in solving difficult problems and an ability to identify and focus on the root causes of problems. He/she must switch gears comfortably, operate effectively with ambiguity, and be forthright in bringing to light areas of improvement.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES.
- Lead Lean Six Sigma projects within the designated area. Effectively coordinate these projects with the deployment champion, business/functional point of contact, and other improvement project teams. Rigorously apply the Lean Six Sigma principles and tools to achieve sustainable improvements. Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, managing team activities, leading teams to projects with the problem solving methodology, managing project queues, tracking project status and results, removing and elevating project barriers, successfully closing and delivering on project deliverables, and developing team members. Includes the integration of other projects/processes and coordination of the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals. Also includes capturing lessons learned and assisting in translation of successes to other areas.
- Provides coaching and direction to the Green Belts and Yellow Belts to ensure LSS methodologies are applied and projects are completed successfully. Participate in the selection of Green Belts, Yellow Belts, and Team Members into the Lean Six Sigma infrastructure, and ensure continuing development of their skills. This may include teaching elements of DMAIC to Green Belt and/or Yellow Belt classes.
Job Requirements: • Successful completion of LSS Black Belt training and exam • BS in engineering or operations management • 5 years operations/engineering/ S&OP/ business experience • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to facilitate cross-functional teams • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers • Ability to work in a matrix organization through influencing and flexibility • Ability to lead in situations of ambiguity • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret varied and complex information; communicate and achieve consensus on recommendations • Strong data analysis skills • Self motivated • Has excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, facilitation skills • Proven ability to drive change throughout organization • Software proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, Power Point • Ability to travel internationally
Preferred Qualifications: • MBA or other graduate level degree • Black Belt certification • Completion of Master Black Belt Training • Experience with project management and statistical software (i.e., MS Project, Minitab, PowerSteering)
